In Sammamish, Washington the Guinness book of world records is taking notice as gingers from around the world will descend upon the city attempting to break the record of the most natural redheads gathered in one place at one time.

If you live near the area it is taking place at 2PM at the Skyline High School Stadium, the first 100 people who show up also get a copy of the book Redheads and More Redheads written by author and artist Anne Lindsay who is also organizing the event. After doing some research it doesn’t appear that there is a previous record that has been set for this, but hopefully once they all get together it will stand for a long time!

Apparently a sex study i must have overlooked has found that while Blonds may have more fun, redheads have way more sex according to research done in Germany. Professor Dr Werner Habermehl looked at the sex lives of thousands of German woman and correlated the results with their hair color.

He found that women with red hair were clearly more sexually active then those with other colors having more partners and more sex more often then the average, I guess the caricature of the fiery redhead certainly lives up to her reputation. He also found that women who changed their hair color to red were often trying to subconsciously signal that they are looking for a new partner. A psychologist involved in the study however stated another reason why redheads have exciting sex lives:

Red stands for passion and when a man sees a redhead he will think he is dealing with a woman who won’t mess around, and gets straight to the point when it comes to sex.

Now we all know how we are all into red headed chicks but probubly not this kind. A red-headed chicken was born at the Kohl Children’s Museum in Glenview Illinois which stood out from the usually Black chicks that are born in the museum’s Eggs to Chicks Exhibit.

The distinctive red tinge to the birds hair is extremely rare with their being only 300 of the kind in existence according to scientists. The actual breed went extinct more then a century ago but just like in humans the recessive genetic trait has continued to be passed down through generations but has remained dormant.

The chick dubbed “Rusty” will remain at the museum until the end of April when it will be handed over to a group who is attempting to re-populate the Auburn Java variety. Museum employees had been told to keep a watch out for some of the rarer colours as even blue hair has been known to exist.

Have you ever wanted to get that natural red hair look without putting all of the potentially toxic and damaging chemicals? Try this home made recipe that is chemical free and easy on your wallet. Follow these seven steps and you can have that great red hair look. Your going to need a few items that you can pick up at any grocery store:

Rose hip or clove tea or black coffee

Shampoo

Conditioner

A Shower

This will work best on lighter colored hair, but even darker ones will work if you leave the product in for a little longer. Here are the instructions

Brew the clove or rose hip tea, if you decide to use black coffee make sure it is a strong brew.

Let the brew cool completely before use, you do not want to put boiling hot coffee on your head!

Shampoo the hair to clean off any oils or grime and rinse well.

Pour the mixture onto your hair, it is best to make sure the liquid does not land on any tile or shower curtains as it will leave a stain. Try and re-capture as much as the liquid as possible using a metal bowl. This method does not have the consistancy of regular hair dyes and will run through the hair quickly. Repeat this 10-15 times.

Let the mixture sit in your hair for 20 minutes.

Wash the mixture out thoroughly and then add conditioner and style your hair as normal.

Enjoy your beautiful all natural red hair!!

Nicole Giladi a writer from Los Angles has publisher a book called “Little Redheads Across America and it has sold thousands of copies since its release in 2009. A so-called “coffee table book” is filled with more then400 pictures of redheads from all 50 states.

She said the inspiration for her book was her son who is a redhead and became curious as to why considering she and her husband did not have redhead. She became fascinated with their physical traits like freckles, and red hair. The united states has the largest population of redheads in any other country.

“I was fascinated to learn that redheads make up only 2 to 4 percent of the U.S. population. I was also astonished to learn that it’s a recessive gene, which means both my husband and I gave our son his copper colored locks” Giladi said

The book is available in an 88-page hardcover book and can be purchased from her website: www.littleredheadsacrossamerica.com. It took Giladi over two and a half years to complete the book collecting pictures and stories from gingers all over America. There are also fun and education facts in the book about the 50 states.

Gingervitus can be contracted during any point during a persons lifetime however it is usually apparent soon after birth. Some people will not begin to show symptoms until later in life, usually around the time of puberty. This condition was explained in the South Park episode “Ginger Kids“.

A few years ago the media was reporting that redheads will eventually become extinct to the genes that cause “gingers” to have the red hair and freckles we all love. Some sources claimed that as early as 2060 our gene would be bred out of our genetic code.

The articles based their findings on the mistaken assumption that recessive genes such as the ones that cause red hair would eventually disappear due to the low number of red heads currently in the world. Recessive genes can become less prevalent but wont disappear completely short of every single human on the planet that carries the gene dies or fails to reproduce. Unless there was some sort of global event that killed off a large number of these people, red heads like you will be around for many more generations to come.

Some of the articles referenced the “Oxford Hair Foundation” as the source of the research. However any attempts to reach their website now automatically sends you to the homepage of Proctor and Gamble. A company who makes money selling many different types of beauty products, including red hair dye.

I for one plan on making sure that the ginger gene gets passed on whether or not this is true. We are a special breed and anything we can do to increase our population i am all for!
